Spring Show: May 29, 30, 31, June 5, 6 & 7
The Curious Savage is a heartwarming comedy by award winning playwright, John Patrick. The central character, Mrs. Savage has quite a dilemma. She has been committed to a sanatorium by her greedy stepchildren because she was joyfully spending her late husband’s fortune fulfilling long forgotten dreams for her as well as others. Desperately clutching a worn teddy bear in her arms, she is introduced to several of the home’s special residents and she comes to feel the love and acceptance her own family denies her. The story takes several twists and turns as her stepchildren come to understand that Mrs. Savage isn’t as crazy as they had once thought. In the end, the hardest decision, to stay or to leave, belongs to her.
In a world that sometimes seems motivated entirely by greed and dishonesty, this touching work helps us to believe that the often neglected and forgotten virtues of kindness and affection still have importance in our lives.
